Pilates

Southside Physio offers a range of Pilates strengthening options with classes at our Woden Clinic. The modern Pilates technique offers a low impact exercise regime suitable for most individuals. Pilates sessions are conducted by a physiotherapist to enable safe and effective exercise practice while monitoring and adjusting for different levels of injury and ability within the class. 

NEW CLASSES:

Our next Pilates Classes start on Tuesday 20th February and will be running weekly for 9 weeks. Classes run every Tuesday at 5.30pm (Beg/Int) Beginners welcome. 1-on-1 private classes (individual sessions) are also available, if you would prefer this method please call them on 6282 5010. 

We are currently taking expressions of interest for an additional pilates class during the day - most likely mid morning.  If you are interested in these classes or would like any more information about pilates please let us know.

PILATES AIMS:

  • To strengthen the deep abdominal muscles that support the spine;
  • To enable the body to work efficiently, creating overall strength, flexibility and functionality of movement; and
  • To create body awareness, so that the muscles of the body work effectively, reducing any unnecessary tension and strain.

The benefits of Pilates include improved posture and muscle function, enhanced flexibility, and greater strength and stability of core muscles - hence, reduced back pain. Pilates is used for general overall conditioning and injury rehabilitation. Patients with lumbar pain, occupational overuse, arthritis, post orthopaedic and post back surgery all benefit with Pilates based rehabilitation.

 

PILATES OPTIONS AND PRICES:

1. PILATES GROUP COURSE:

Pilates Group Courses are run in blocks of 9 or 10 weeks during each term. This is a progressive course and it is therefore important that you commit to the full term. Catch up lessons are difficult due to class numbers. Each class runs for approximately 1 hour. As a physiotherapist runs these classes, you may be able to receive a rebate from your private health insurance. 

If you require more supervision, option 2 may be a better alternative. 

 

2. PRIVATE SESSIONS (30 MINUTES):

A private Pilates session is where an individual program will be prepared for you to do at home. It is recommended that you book 4 private Pilates sessions within an 8 week period to ensure the exercises are being performed correctly and to enable the program to be extended. As the session is conducted by a qualified physiotherapist, you may be able to claim a percentage of your session from your private health fund.
